General Blog Entry Question 1 :Q & A

posted Jun 13, 2010, 7:04 PM by Yvonne Arispe

When I first started to read the book "Q & A" I was drawn into the story right away.It didn't take a while for me to like the book. When I started to read the book i wanted to keep on reading it. I thought it was an interesting story and I liked the writing style of it.I liked how every chapter had a different story to it , and that every story had an answer to one of the questions on the game show.At first I thought that I would get tired of  reading the book since I had already seen the movie Slumdog Millioanire and I thought it would be kind of the samething. But as I kept reading I realized that the movie and the book were different but somewhat the same.Nothing really irrtated or disturbed me.I was amused of how the book ended , I didn't expect what happened in the ending. But I thought it was a good ending to a good story.

When I first started to read the book "Becoming Madame Mao" I was immediatley drawn into the story.Even though the writing style was different from other books and confusing to understand I liked that it was unique and it made the book more interesting.I liked that the book doesnt just entertain you  but also informs you about the history of China. And at the sametime it tells you about the story of how someone changed into another person. What disturbed me was when the 3rd person objective was speaking they would bring up something that happened 30 years ago from the present. It would make it hard to understand what was going on at times. What irritated me was when it seemed like Yunhe was trying to play a role for everything.Or how she said that Yu Qiwei didn't let her finish her role.Or when ever she did something wrong she would feel that she didn't play her role right.Overall I think this is a good and unique novel that someone should take their time to read.

What was the funniest/saddest/strangest thing that happened? Why?

The saddest thing that has happened in the book so far was when Father Timothy died.It was sad because Ram was taken good care of when he was living in his home and after his death Ram was going to have to leave.I also think it was sad because when Ram didnt know that his adopted parents had left him he thought Father Timothy was his real father until he was told he was not. And even though he knew Father Timothy wasn't his real father I think he still thought of him as someone that really cared for him and as a parent or guardian.Ram didn't know how it was like to have a dad so for someone to take that away from him it wasn't just taking someone away from him that was a guardian but he also got a place called home taken away from himm. Father Timothy's death was also sad because Ram wasn't the only person that lost someone he really loved Ian did to especially because he was his father not just the father he is to everyone but his real father.

Answer to question 2 of Enruque's Journey

Enrique's relationship with his mother is kind of distant when she leaves to the United States. But when she still lived in Honduras their relatuonship was like any otber realationship between a mother with her son. They loved eachother,Enrique would always be close to her,but once she left he questioned her love and would cry because he noticed his mom had left.Enrique's realtionshipe with his mom is different than his realtionships woth others because nobody could take his mom's place.Even though his grandma raised him after his mom left it wasn't the same without her.Even though he was a little kid when she left he remebered how she cared for him & nobody could do it the same way.

What have I discovered??

From reading the book Enrique's Journey, written by Sonia Nazario, I have discovered some things that could help me outside of school. In the book it's a big issue for Enrique to stay positive and to look at other peoples views. Also, in the book the reader will find that it could have been possible for Enrique to do these things. So, not only in school you can learn to be optimistic and look at other points of views around you, you can learn and do them outside of school.

I have learned that the way you approach the position your in, that is how it will go. So if I'm having a really bad day and everything is going wrong then I should think on the bright side, because I'm just feeling angry at the time. If I focus on what I can do to fix it then I will be more confident or motivated and succeed. This can happen at a job. When I don't want to get up and get ready to go work, then thats my fault. I lose an oppurtunity. But if I think of the good consequences that might come, if i do chose to go to work then I will be motivated. This would help me accomplish many of my daily tasks in life. Also, when seeing other points of view helps me think of a different way of looking at something. I makes me be more open and also helps me think of new ideas of my own.
